Song to play in the background: The Healing by Essie Jain
I wake up in gratitude having steeped in sleep, I dream in the quiet expanse of the morning, slow stretch into a fresh future
outside dew beads on the grass, the slate of the night wiped clean, new air in light grays, blues, citrus, and my fellow comrades of daybreak cranking the lever —
turning up the light, reflections in the windows, shadows angled into corners, sun spray through the leaves of all of the trees
tuning the dial of sound - shoe-steps kurplunking, hushed barefeet sticking, the groan and rumble of a bus, hum of early conversation
coffee, burnt raisin toast
and me bathing in the sun
dipping my cup into the
tub of rays and pouring them
over my shoulders
